Darwinia Myopica : Schezophrenic dream zone
Annie was in dream zone , she was
told poor Darwin may have been wrong . She was just returning after a lecture session
on ‘House Lizards’ @ Conference hosted and sponsored by The Nature Magazine … “
house lizards follow a culture that’s primarily influenced and lead by their staple
food- insects and pests – and that preference seems to have evolved from a
deeply devastating ‘existential crisis’ Annie’s dream dreamt on … ‘ she was in
this old balcony on the 3rd floor of an old, ancestral house, built
by brick, mortar and teak wood ( the floors, the ceiling , the pillars , the furniture et
al were all classy polished wood ) the visual dream had just the right kinda
light ( slightly golden ) , electricity was around but it old tungsten ensconced
inside a whitish ceramic lamp shade… even the electric holders looked they
belonged an era of her childhood… “ the lizards are gracious animals , while
all lizards have to survive on pests they are extremely generous and accommodative
esp in situations where the supply of pests are limited … in a video Annie
showed there were 3 lizards… one that looked like a male, fairly large , the
second one sleek and slim but yet fairly large, and then a third that was small
and tiny yet very active… the big ones were initially the epitome of calm the
slim one once in a while twirled her tail while watching the bigger male … all
of them were watching out for a pest to land anywhere that they could go and
stick their tongues out and have a quick meal … as Annie continued to run the
video the conference attendees noticed that the moment a “pest appeared” the
first to rush to the pest were the two big lizards ( all 3 were located almost
in a right angled triangular space facing each other from a few feet apart ) and then suddenly the slimmer one stopped and
allowed the fatter one to gobble the pest … the video clearly showed that the
sacrifice was not out of fear but out of sheer ‘deference’ … and the best part
was the video capturing the ‘smallest among them all moving out gracefully ‘ … the whole video established that ‘lizards were
partriarchical … and they were capable of maintaining a hierarchy and a culture…
Annie’s dream intensified itself… she was now on a railing somewhere on Brigade
road, Bangalore …. Smoking pot and watching people … she was told by her dream
that to say “ all humans evolved from ‘man the monkey’ was beginning to sound
archaic, suddenly her dream world started throwing faces some looked like birds,
some others looked like leopards, a few looked like elephants and to Annie’s
surprise and shock some faces were very familiar – so she started giving each
one of them a ‘nom de plume’ ome became a deer, another became a hippo, one
more became a Giraffe …it went on … she reminded herself she was dreaming …but
yet the sequence continued … la Noah’s ark with Darwin churning a new alchemy
of human evolution … monkey alone wasn’t the one to walk straight up … it was
actually a set of big birds … real big birds … Annie was seen screaming …
The nurses in the hospital rushed
as Dannie watched , Helplessly.
