Bernstein , Annie's mentor and guide at Harvard was bleeding red skin , he was livid .
His ward and student par excellence was challenging every word , every statement of his in a manner that he had never ever been challenged or questioned before, every statement Annie asked and he answered met with a sense of vehemence and objection that seemed more personal than intellectual challenge , seemed to be like a confrontation of ideals, ideas, history, philosophy everything - morality, ethics, god, divinity, birth, after birth, death , after death, near death , humanism, capitalism, economic theory or the class struggle - everything seemed unconvincing to Annie , her question was " Have you lived it Bernie " ? have you lived the life of morality ? to answer the question ' What's morality '? and have you experienced life of the so called 'immorality'? Have You ? Have you been there ?Actually in the moment ? Fuck all that Aristotle, Plato, Origen, Clement of Alexandria and such crap ... !!
Talk Philosophy that you've lived out - both ends . Don't just teach.
Bernstein fired out ... keeping up a mock livid face , serious enough but firm and assertive yet soft as he hissed out the owrds ' Get out Annie , Get out ' Live that Philosphy and then return when you think you're done with it, Harvard might still take you in. Now , vanish.
Bernstein lifted his leg and made a mock gesture of kicking Annie on her arse ... Annie in her own livid manner stomped out - both thought this was just banter, but both were wrong.
But somehow this time - Annie decided to actually plunge in. Just drop out and walk out of Harvard, she was bored of all that first class flying and all that anyways.
Annie promised to return before his death . Let me live every element you just teach, all your theories seem so phony without someone living them out , I think Philosophy needs a real life reboot.
